On October 22, 2019, my family was rocked by a near tragedy that changed our lives forever. It was a day that reinforced the undeniable importance of CPR classes and the value of maintaining a CPR certificate. In that critical moment, I realized the consequences of letting my CPR certification lapse many years prior.

My youngest child found themselves in a life-threatening situation, a non-fatal drowning incident that left us all in shock. Thanks to my wife, who was well-versed in CPR, our child’s life was saved. I can’t express enough gratitude for her quick thinking and knowledge of this vital skill, but this incident served as a powerful reminder of the need for everyone to be prepared to act in such emergencies.

Water safety is paramount, and it’s not only about knowing the ABCs of water safety (A – Adult Supervision, B – Barriers, C – Classes, CPR, and Swimming) but also about being ready to take immediate action when necessary. You never know when you might be the difference between life and death for someone you love.

That’s why I urge everyone to consider taking a CPR class and maintaining their certification. The American Red Cross offers excellent courses that can equip you with the skills and knowledge to respond effectively in emergencies. Whether it’s for your family, friends, or even strangers, being prepared to perform CPR can be a game-changer in saving lives.

Don’t wait until a life-altering event forces you to recognize the importance of CPR and water safety. Take action now, get trained, and be prepared to make a life-saving difference in the lives of others. Your knowledge and skills can be the lifeline someone desperately needs in a crisis.
